To close our fall semester, we welcome back Julie Smith to teach on witnessing and preaching. This class serves our students exceptionally well as they gear up for Quake events in the spring and prepare to witness to thousands of students at Quake events.

Julie serves on the national staff for Lutheran Congregations in Mission for Christ (LCMC) in which she serves as Director of Districts and Fellowships. Julie also helped found and teaches at St. Paul’s Seminary. Julie is a die-hard Golden State Warriors fan and loves teaching the art of preaching.

Each year, TAP students and staff take a trip out to Washington state to take in a week of classes with some west coast teachers, enjoy the beauty of the Pacific Northwest, and learn what ministry is like in a different and unique part of the United States.

We are very excited to welcome back Kyle Fever to the TAP rotation, and to have him in person this fall! Kyle will be teaching on the Trinity and where we can find the Trinity in Paul’s letters and theology.

Kyle currently serves as the lead pastor at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Adair, Iowa. Kyle has a Doctorate in New Testament studies from Loyola University, Chicago, has taught at the Master’s Institute, and leads LeaderCare retreat weekends for Lutheran Congregations in Mission for Christ.

“His eminence” as he is lovingly called on the Quake circuit, the one and only Bill Yonker makes his TAP teaching debut this fall! Bill is beloved wherever he goes to speak and teach, this year’s students are in for a treat with him.

Bill has been a keynote speaker for Quake events and Lutheran Church, Missouri Synod (LCMS) events for decades. Bill has also taught at Mount Carmel Ministries on and off for the last eight years. Bill currently serves as Senior Pastor at Immanuel Lutheran Church and School in East Dundee, Illinois.

The dynamic duo from Hutchinson, Minnesota return for a third year together of teaching the gospels! Dave and Steve, self described “the best of frenemies,” are back to teach one of the funnest classes of the year.

Both Dave and Steve serve as parish pastors in Hutchinson. Dave’s church, Faith Lutheran Church, and its internship program, are a part of the Greenhouse Collective. Dave and Steve like to think that they’re good at the video game War Zone, and they enjoy ribbing each other whenever Minnesota (Dave) and Philadelphia (Steve) sports teams are competing against each other.

After a year off, we are very excited to welcome back Ben Sides to teach on Spiritual Disciplines! Ben has a wicked sharp sense of humor and is exactly the guru-type who brings a unique wisdom to spiritual disciplines.

Ben has recently been living in a discipling young adult community in New York City, and also brings with him three years of living in San Pedro, California where he helped shape and lead the Trinity San Pedro “trintern” program.

Ken Nelson will continue with his Old Testament teachings as he and TAP students will be looking at the wisdom literature (Psalms, Proverbs, Ecclesiastes) during this week.

Ken and Marcella served in Tanzania as missionaries for a number of years and currently reside in Brookfield, Wisconsin. Ken is a retired parish pastor, having recently served in the North American Lutheran Church, and Marcella serves as the board chair for Mount Carmel Ministries.

TAP students will be traveling to Cedar Rapids, Iowa to attend Lutheran Congregations in Mission for Christ’s (LCMC) annual gathering. This is a great opportunity for students to expand their ministry network, meet future TAP teachers, learn about the Greenhouse Collective, and explore their own ministry vocational aspirations.

All of our teachers our fan favorites, but Paul is the only one with bowling and Homer trophies. Paul will be back teaching on the Inductive Bible Study method.

Paul resides in Fargo, North Dakota with his wife Rhonda. They have four grown children and four grandchildren. Paul tried retiring from pastoral ministry in 2022, but has recently been called back to the ministry to serve Trinity Lutheran Church in Carrington, North Dakota in an interim capacity. Paul has been a family camp speaker for Mount Carmel, taught at the Master’s Institute Seminary, and been a parish pastor for over thirty years.

We are thrilled to welcome Kendra Diehl back to teach for TAP! Kendra will be teaching on both Colossians as well as giving an introduction on basic biblical exegesis.

Kendra has been married to her husband Rob for 39 years, is blessed to have three adult children with wonderful life partners, and two kind, crazy, and creative grandsons. Kendra has recently served on staff with the Master’s Institute Seminary and teaches regularly at the Canadian Lutheran Bible Institute.
