A Week of Washington
The Awaken Project’s trip to Washington was nothing short of a great way to end the fall semester. Between the fantastic teaching, beautiful scenery, and countless inside jokes formed, the trip was well worth the wait (and the 23 hour drive).
To begin the week, we started our journey with a 12 hour drive on Saturday to Bozeman, Montana. Though this portion of the trip included some not-so-impressive sights, the drive was pretty fun, as it included about two hours of The Movie Game, lessons on how to rap The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, and deep conversations. The next day required another 11 hour drive, but was equally filled with memories, but accompanied by splendid mountainous scenery.
Then, to kick off the week of teaching, the Awaken Project team got to learn from Herb Hoff as we explored the book of 1 Timothy. From here, the week included about 5 different teachers who continued to teach us about the Leadership and Pastoral Epistles (1 & 2 Timothy and Titus). Though these books of the Bible contain some of the more controversial portions of scripture, the teachers offered tremendous insight and led discussions that created a better understanding of both past and present leadership directions from the Bible.
In addition to the amazing teachers we got the opportunity to learn from, we met some other amazing individuals throughout the trip. Two of which were the Moe’s, Logan & Merrill. Logan is the founder of The Potter’s Boards Surf Co. and he and his wonderful wife, Merrill, showed us Christ-like hospitality as they made us dinner on Wednesday evening and spent most of the day hanging out with us on the following Saturday. Overall, the group shared lots of laughs and stories together!
Similarly, TAP was warmly welcomed to the Olympia, Washington area by Pastor Luther and Ann-Marie Stenberg of Peace Lutheran Brethren Church. The couple generously hosted Monday night dinner for us and Ann-Marie shared her vast knowledge of Washington with us as she gave a tour of Olympia and Seattle. These tours included wonderful sights, delicious treats, and a better understanding of the beautiful state we were visiting.
Ultimately, this conclusion to the fall semester was amazing and we are so thankful for the people who shared the love of Christ with us throughout our time in the state of Washington!
